Why is it that between 57-60 it is next to impossible to find as many parts and sheet metal as say 48-56? Is it just that the latter years are just more desirable in terms of restoration and the formers are more orphaned?
i would agree with Harley. they were not as popular as the 48 - 56 models as far as restoring or hot rodding. but the 48 - 56's are starting to dry up and people are starting to look more seriously at the 57-60 as candidates for restoring and hot rodding.
a lot more parts and accessories are available these days then even 5 - 10 yrs ago when i started to fix up the 60. there were very few body parts or kits secifically geared towards these years. now days you can buy new floor panels, the front cab supports and aftermarket guage panels, all stuff i custom made as no one was offering this stuff. lots of suppliers are offering kits secifically for these years or are finally indicating that kits meant for later years will also work with these year trucks (brake kits is one example).
give it a couple of more years and the parts options will be even greater as more people demand parts for these years.
they will never be as popular as the earlier years, but then again you could probably buy 3 or 4 57-60 trucks for the asking price of a basket case 56 model.
