I have a 2003 F250 5.4. It is a 6 speed and manual transfer case on the left of the tranny shifter. I was under my truck and I was inspecting it and I found these two vacuum lines running to each of the front wheels. I don't have the Shift on the fly **** on my dash, just the manual shifter on the floor of the truck. I have manual hubs and if I turn them to lock the 4wd locks up but when I turn them clockwise and put it in 4wd nothing happens. I guess my question is if I have a manual Tcase and hubs why are these lines here and running to a solenoid under the hood????? Are they on there no matter what? Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated.
Ford probably only makes the one set of knuckles which have the vacuum provision. I can see them running the tube up to the engine bay, but the solenoid is more than I would expect on the manual system. Maybe it was the easiest way an engineer could come up with the seal the system?
Yeah I agree with you, It looks like everything is there but the dash switch. I thought maybe if I have them in the free position they would lock up when I put the tcase in 4wd but im still stumped.
If the hubs aren't marked auto, I wouldn't expect them switch. I also wouldn't expect the lines to carry much vacuum. Usually when you disconnect the esof hose, it will whistle for a few seconds. You can try disconnecting the hose and if you don't hear a whistle then the vacuum pump doesn't run them. Even when my 4wd has been off for days/weeks, the lines still hold a few inches of vacuum.
I would probably say just a reservoir. But I dont know much about the gassers. The diesels dont produce a vacuum so the pump is needed for the vents and ESOF.

If I manualy lock the hubs they work, if I manually unlock them then no 4wd. My question was why is this stuff here if I have a manual hub and Tcase shifter.
I will check out Oasis, anyone know of sensors or anything like that on manual hubs??? if they are not vacuum lines any other suggestions?
It has to be the ABS sensor, thats the only thing I can come up with. You guys are great, any other site wouldn't get a response much less all of yours. The owner's manual I have isn't that great, the chilton I have isn't that great either, I appreciate your help!!!
