With Happyjack posting about some changes at his house and some of the things we have done a our place, I was wondering what have you been doing (if anything) to cut expenses or to save some money.
I noted that we changed phone, cable and internet service as a way to cut back on expenses. We have also been grilling and eating at home more over that last couple of months.
Mostly just staying at home. The only thing close to a trip I've had this year was CS&W. I hadn't done anything with my web site in well over a year so I did not renew it this year. It finally droped off last month. Just put all projects on hold. But things are on the up swing for me. I wanted to get rid of the land lines years ago. Just finally was able to get Margaret to do it.
If I don't have any unexpected bills between now and when I get back from Colorado it is going to be project time. The main plan is over the next two years to pay off the house, finish the remodel, buy new furniture and carpet. Then through a party to celebrate being 100% debt free. I was thinking about BBQ. Maybe have Hog Wild cater a lake day. I started this when Green stranded me in Utah a year ago last April and so far so good.
we been spendin money like its going out of style, we put in the new back sliding door, in an effort to save money and the house later this year, we are paying for Julie's 5 surgeries at 15-17,000 each minus the amount that insurance pays, plus my 3,000 dollar motel stay with wires and tubes hanging off me coming up. We had a new heater and a/c installed, and the house breaker box replaced and some new outlets installed.
Probably gonna come back to bite us later this year, but I guess its stuff that needed done.
Dave Ramsey concert helpled my wife start to understand what I was trying to tell her about money all along, so we have made alot of progress on paying off bills, hope insurance takes good care of us.
Yup Curtis I read that post last year and have followed what I remember. I paid off my smallest bills first with any extra cash I could get. Then when the smallest was gone I put all of that on the next largest bill. I really locked myself down tight. But all I have left now is the house payment and if I just put 1/2 of what I was spending on all the other bills on top of my house payment it should pay of in a little over 2 years. That would be 3 years early. And I now have some money to start doing projects and traips again. Course most of that stuff is gonna take savin the extra cash for a few or more months to do and I don't have much built up as a buffer yet. But things should start to get a lot better.
Thing is my retirement will be redone in 2012. So I really had to start this last year in order to have everything ready for that. Should have about 6 months to spare. And the cash to buy a newer truck. If I kin git Green and Jr. to last me that long.
That is what we have been working on too for the last while. The wife got let go right before Christmas, so we have been watching things real close. We've gotten used to it, so now that she is back to work we are trying to get rid of debt and get everything paid off.
She is doing OK. We even bought a bottle of that bad stuff after CS&W to have around to sip on from time to time. The only problem now is that it is all gone. LOL
Of course sipping mint julips with friends when the Kentucky Derby ran a week or two later didn't help the contents either. Fresh mint from the garden makes a mean julip. That probably was a waste of good sippin whiskey, but they sure were good.
Onlyist way I know ta waste Bulliet or a lot of other fine stuff is ta spill it. Long as ya drank it and enjoyed it that's all that matters. Bob in Denver gave me what was left of a double bottle. The bottle looks the same it's just twice as big. I can't buy that size at my place but I sure kin get two an fill it up. And it's all Bob's fault fer telling about the stuff. Next time I'll bring the sippin glasses an chill um in the ice chest. That way we don't water it down with ice, we just chill it in the glass. Maybe I can even get a bottle of Elijah(sp) Craig 18 year old. Not as smooth a beginnig or middle. Just a mild kick front ta back. Just a bit softer than the kick Bulliet has at the end. And it has a spicey flavor.
