truck sputtered, died
so last night, the truck died. 242k on it. had been running a rough idle, and running rough at speed, of course, my plans had been to look at it today, but things for work came up and i had to drive last night. i've had burned wiring harneses UVC before, but it was running different than that. just kinda rough, not as much power as usual at all. coming downhill it started to sputter some, then it got worse and worse untill it just flat died. try starting it and it sputters and farts, but no start. its got at least 1/3 tank of fuel in it, so thats not the problem. its at a shop right now, the guy i want to look at it won't be in till monday. i know its gotta be fuel related. the pump is around a year old, filter has like 6k on it i think. it does need an oil change, gonna have them do that while its there. hpop, injectors, injector pressure relay thing? any ideas? i've never done anything to the injectors since i got it at 184k, just occasionally some diesel kleen.

The IPR o-rings can go bad and cause them to idle rough, but it usually clears up when the rpm's are up. Also usually does it when the truck is warm because the oil thins out as it warms up and leaks past the o-rings of the IPR. Other possibilities are the under valve cover harnesses, the CPS, old oil,(it would have to be real old). See if you can get some codes and let us know what you come up with. There are some folks on here that can give you some real good ideas if they have some codes to go by.
