F250 HD Front IFS to Solid axle conversion
#32
There is one other difference between the two - the F-350's have larger blocks between the springs and the rear axle. This allows for more flex and more payload in the bed.
Also more axle wrap, but hey, it's all marketing.

the problem is that if you are on a slope or on the brakes, the drivetrain will be "loaded" keeping the t-case from shifting into low gear. if it is "unloaded" it will shift.

Ya ok I'm thinking the linkage is likely frozen, guess I'll start soaking in in WD-40. Took a picture of the locking hubs but not sure where my camera is now. The outside if the hubs are almost the same size as the hub opening on the rim but it dosn;t realyly matter if I'm swaping it I guess.
Soon as I find my camera I'm gonna try and post some pics.
Anyone near Ottawa, Ontario have an F-350 front end for sale?
Anyone have a recomendation for Diff gearing. I was thinking perhaps something close to a 4.10 or maybe a little lower. thats with 35x12.50
oh and almost forgot is the F-350 8 bolt as well.

In theory you should be able to just bolt it in in after removing the IFS brackets on the cross member. this is assuming of course your spring mounts are in the right place and the punkin is on the correct side.
Dude to funding issues my D60 is still hanging from the frame on ratchet straps.

God this was a good read! Haha!
Mr. Justice you should have no problem bolting out your F250 front axle and bolting in your F350 front axle. 87-97 F350 will work with no real issues.
You want the axle(be sure to get the driver side leaf spring u-bolt plate), all the steering stuff from pitman arm down, the front driveshaft, the front transfer case yoke, front leaf springs, track bar with cross member mount, rear leaf spring blocks and a handful of new hardware to replace any questionable fasteners and all the U-bolts.
Consider replacing all the steering pieces with new stuff but if the old stuff is free it will help with a mock up. And make a check list to check things off as you go. It will help you remember what you've tightened or still need to remove.
Depending what year axle you get, I think up to 94 has the same brake mounting as your truck. If you get a newer axle just get the brakes with it if you can. Your locking hubs should work in the new axle if it comes with questionable hubs.
I did this swap in my 94 recently with an 89 axle. I got all the info from this forum and a couple write-ups online. I'll try to find one again and link it here.
***no luck with the link but I remember all the pics went away when photosucket wanted you to pay a mere $400 a year for hosting pics. I think it was actually a ford-trucks.com "article". Look around, plenty of info on this topic. If you get into a bind you can message me and I'm sure I can help you with some finer details.
