Fuel pump Issues

Does the fuel pump in the tank not push any fuel if the lines are disconnected at the selector valve? I can hear the pump run for about 3 seconds when the key is turned but there is no fuel coming out of the lines. Is it possible the selector valve is at fault as it was stuck between tanks. I have since manually set it to the front tank but have not installed it as I don't want to if I have other problems I need to fix. any help in this matter would be very helpful.

It will push fuel. If fuel isn't coming out, you have other problems.

It's a Ford ranger 1986. I got it all figured out now though. The motor for the pump was running but the blades are jammed. New pump installed and all is well.

How did you get the pump out? Did you drop the tank or move the bed?

Dropped the tank. Was hard to do but I don't have a large enough torques bit for the box.
