94 F150, all stock, stock manifolds, stock y-pipe, factory cat at y-pipe, 3in out of factory cat into 3" magnaflow hi flow cat, then into magnaflow 3" universal 5x8 stainless muffler(part#12279) exited before rear tire. I dropped it off this morning to have done. I am hoping it will not be too loud. I want a nice strong sound on acceration but really would like it quieter during cruisn speed. I had plent of mustangs that have that drone at cruising speed...I sure hope this does not. Anyone with a setup like or close to this that has any input?
Thanks
BTW I am hoping for a slight increase in mpg's. A friend has same setup but straight piped...way to loud but he claims to have gained 1mpgw /exhaust mods and 2mpg with electric fan. says truck ave 17-18 city 20-22 hwy. I average 14-15city 17-17.5hwy
I Think you'll like that setup.Let us know how you made out.I have a fox-body Mustang and the drone was unreal with 2 chamber Flowmasters.I switched to the MAC Flowpaths and there's no drone at all with those.
i think it'll be really quiet since you still have the factory y-pipe and manifolds, it'll also be restrictive as well i wouldn't expect much of a mpg gain from this set-up, get some long tubes high flow cats and a glasspack and i think it would sound nice
on my truck i have long tubes no cats 2.5in true dual exhaust with summit welded mufflers exiting before the back wheel and it sounds NASTY really screams when the secondaries open up and the converter stalls out
i have shortys on my 5.0 with true 2.5in duals, no cats, to an h pipe, then into 2 40 series flows going out behind the rear tires. and it doesn't drone at all, when the windows are up i can't hear it at all, but when i put the windows down i can hear it.....but not too loud, its probally alot louder outside the truck. not to many people go out of their way to do the exhaust right, and end up with just some cat back set up and calling it dual exhaust, most rednecks that straightpipe them lol where as i have a 500 dollar exhaust, and it was well worth it, it sounds perfect.

Picked it up last night and it was just what I was looking for. It has a noticable idle but yes not much more than stock and it has a nice sound when accelerating. Like i said before did not want it to be too loud. Anyway thanks for the input. I am currently gathering parts for a very mild 331 build. when I install the new engine I will put shorties and a new y-pipe. Not looking for a race truck just a nice daily driven truck with a bit more sack than this 5.0 has
