Anyone know if Ford's gear oil spec, WSP-M2C-197A is compatable with the API "GL-5" spec? I want to change my front differential lube to synthetic Mobil 1, but it's only compatable with GL-5 requirements. I called Ford, spent a half hour on hold, and was told to "ask the dealer". The dqler has no clue, since he only uses Motorcraft 80W-90, and could care less about a GL rating.
The reason I'm being cautious about this is because Ford uses Mercon V in my tranny, yet the synthetic manufacturers don't make an equivalent Mercon V, just straight Mercon.
So I don't wan't to find out later that the gear oil spec was also for some propriatary lube that wasn't compatable with the Mobil 1 GL-5 stuff. Anyone know where I can get an actuall copy of the Ford spec?
