My brother just bought a 2003 F250 from a dealer. Drove it about 45 miles and the air conditioner stopped working. The dealer is telling him because its a diesel there is no warranty and he is SOL. Anyone know of a lemon law in Arizona that would protect him on this one, or is this a common problem with a DIY fix.
I am not very knowledgeable about diesels since I myself bought my first one a couple of weeks ago, however I am a bit familiar with HVAC. When you say the ac stopped working what do you mean? Does the fan still run and no cold air comes out, or is there just nothing when you attempt to activate the ac? It could be anything from a short/electical issue to a plumbing issue, or the ac just needs to be recharged or the ac compressor is bad. More informatin would help.

You may want to post this in the Superduty forum as this seems to be a problem that's not 6.0 powerstroke diesel specific. You might get more answers there.
I would check the refrigerant level and listen to see if the ac clutch is engaging and check the fuse. Might try searching the forums, if there are any issues they will be out there.

Reason: missing info.

I am searching around. I figured i would post here because it is a powerstroke. I didnt realize powerstoke meaning motor related only... Maybe a mod could just move my post to the superduty form rather than me reposting.
Thanks for the input. Im gonna be reading around in here for a while.
Actually, I would leave this here and post it in the SD forum as well. Compare your responses. May as well leave it open since it's already here.
You might do an online search for the AZ BBB and see if they have something. Usually, the lemon laws require that a repair is attempted around two to three times with no resolution before a claim can be made but it probably varies by state.
From what I found under Arizonas used car facts, unless you have a written contract with expressed warranty the dealer does not have to fix a problem. You have 15 days or 500 miles to solve a problem without a contract.
The air conditioning unit is not a common problem, could just be low on refridgerant.
Sounds like the fuse blew or the system is low on refrigerant, there should be a pressure switch in the system and when the refrigerant is too low will not allow the compressor to run.
I have an '04 X that had the same thing happen, coincidentally, right after I did my ARP stud install. I thought I had broken an AC line or component since I removed everything except the AC condenser and tranny cooler. However, I realized the AC had not been touched in 5 years and this past winter when the AC light would come on, I would turn the AC off. I thought why have the AC compressor run in the winter. That should save wear and tear on the AC compressor. Not a good idea. The AC needs to run year around or the freon will leak past the compressor seals, especially in older trucks. I took mine to Midas and they recharged it for around $115. That was two months ago and no problems. Sounds like you just may need a charge.
Concerning the warranty. I'm not familar with AZ law but warranty should have been discussed during the deal. Most dealers sell cars AS IS or WARRANTY. Being a diesel or gas has nothing to do with the AC. If he got a warranty and the dealer will not fix it, then the dealer is feeding him Barbara Striesand about it being a diesel.

Pretty crappy dealer if you ask me.(45 mi.?)
Won't work on a/c because it's diesel ? What a crock.
