Hey kids,
I need to know a few things about resetting my preload. I did my pinion seal and as we were screwing in the pinion nut, we were checking the preload constantly. At one point we were getting close, but then we started going back up. I need to know how this works. As the torque on the nut increases, the crush sleeve crushes, but how should the preload amount change in relation to this tightening? Is there a point where the crush sleeve is too crushed and the preload starts to increase? Any info is greatly appreciated!!
Sure! When the bearings actually contact the races the preload goes up very quickly! If you go too far you have to install a new crush sleave and start over.
