460 parts needed
I have a 1979 f-350 with a 460
and need parts for the engine and the body
after refinishing the rails of this 17 ft bed and frame ,
I noticed the cab is nearly gone in one corner ,
and after driving this 10 miles I noticed that it was running hot
so i removed the condenser to create more flow ,there was no ac hooked up
anyway ,and lightly scraped against the radiator causing some pin holes
after looking at the price of a new radiator I put a bottle of radiator repair
in with a egg and jb welded the large pin holes ,
yup,it worked but took this for a 25 mile ride today and overheated
there is flow in the radiator and I can feel the flow with a rag over
the top hose ,
what is a common problem with these engines ?
and where could I possibly get body /cab mounts so I can weld
and or fabricate ,what is recommended for repairing cab corners ?
thanks
truck says 86k ,but the hood says its a 400
stickers on the engine say 460
also how can i tell for sure what kind of tranny i have with pictures
Your truck is old is why it's overheating.
There's nothing inherently wrong with any of those old truck motors. Thermostat stuck, fan not working properly, clogged fins, both inside and out. Bad, old water pump. Are you sure it's overheating? The gauge may be malfunctioning.
Nearly the entire body is reproduced in either repair or whole panels. LMC, NPD just to name a few have your repair parts. I have a local shop to me that all they do is sell body parts and repair panels. Look in your phone book for "body parts"
I think I need a shift rail and clutch ,and do not can not tell what
transmission i have ?
i believe this is a 460 engine ?
changed the t-stat today the old one was stock ?,,
after removing the t-stat housing i pushed down on the t and it
would not move in till forcing it ,but decided to change it anyway
would anyone know where to get a new pto moter /or rebuild set?
also would the cab have to be lifted to do one corner ,is there a way around that ?
thanks
How many valve cover bolt holes does it have per side? Seven or Eight?
7 = 460 / 8 = 351M/400.
The 460 was not available with a manual transmission until 1983.
From 1973 thru 1982, ALL F100/350 460's have the C6 Cruise-O-Matic.
What was the original engine? = The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN:
1977/79 F350: B = 300 I-6 / H = 351M / J = 460 4V (2WD only) / S = 400 2V.
the 4th vin is a s ,,but it has a 4 spd with a pto .
where on the block would be a vin
and still no idea about the transmission
this truck is a 17 ft slider car carrier
thanks
S = 400 2V
Since the engine has been swapped, it could have a Borg Warner T-18, or a T-19 (both 4 speeds), or a New Process 435 4 speed.
Where is reverse, towards the dash, or towards the seat?
