I have a 1997 f350 4x4 with the 5spd. manual.
The truck has 70,000 miles and is beginning to become difficult to shift into reverse or 2nd from a dead stop.
The problem is more noticeable when the truck is warmed up.
If you sit with your foot off the brake and attempt to shift into gear you can feel the truck start to move as you force the shifter.
I have the 4.10 axle and I am very easy on a clutch, having gotten over 170,000 miles on my last truck with the original clutch. I dont think clutch wear is the problem.
I dont see any leaks around clutch slave or resevoir and fluid level is fine.
Any ideas on this? .Anyone have the same problem?
Sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way.If this is the case then it's probably one of three things. The slave cylinder, the clutch master cylinder,or the pressure plate has a problem.I hope for your sake you don't have the 351.Reason being is that the slave cylinder is mounted on the inside of the bellhousing in the center of the trans.input shaft, requiring trans.removal for repair. If it is a 351 it can start to fail and no noticable amount of fluid will leak down to the trans case for a while. The diesel and 460 have an external slave and is quite a bit easier to replace. If the master cylinder is bad the leak could be internal and never show signs of leakage on the outside.
