Hey all,
I own a auto repair shop in Ct. A customer brought in his 05 F350 Super Duty 4X4 5.4, 47000 miles with an unusual complaint. While driving along the front end begins to pull hard left or right. It happens infrequently and on various road surfaces. It has happened on straight, smooth roads as well as rough surface curves. He fights the wheel to keep the truck on the road until he can pull to the side. Once stopped, he rotates the steering wheel lock to lock, hears a click or clunk and drives off with no problem. I had the truck for 2 days, drove it frequently and had no problem. I put it on the lift, checked all steering and suspension componants and no problem was found. I rotated the steering lock to lock using the tire and all was smooth and steady. I really wanted to feel the problem on the road as my description may have differed from the customers, but no luck. I showed the customer a service bullitin regarding wheel occillation, but he said that description was not what he expirienced. He drove the truck home (10 miles) without incident but is reluctant to continue driving. Any ideas?? Thanks.
Crawl underneath and check while the wieght is on the vehical. The suspension sits differently on the ground than in the air....Unless of course your lift picks it up by the tires.
