Help? Considering 04 Excursion with 6.0L.

I am considering purchasing a 2004 Excursion 6.0 that was built in February 04. Can someone advise if this vehicle as the 2003 6.0 or the 2004 6.0. I understand that the 2004 model years in the first quarter had the 2003 6.0. Ford's model year changes in October. Based on the info that I read here on this forum I want to stay away from the 2003 6.0 motor. Please help.

I'd be hesitant to purchase any truck with a 6.0. While the 2005-2007 models have been better, you can read posts on this board about problems with them as well. To date, Ford has paid out over $1 billion in warranty claims with the 6.0 and it's the engine that is pretty much responsible for the divorce between Ford and Navistar. While many folks have had good luck with them, I'd be worried about the potential of driving a financial time bomb.

I take my trucks to a Ford dealer that has a dedicated truck service department and they don't have anything good to say about any of the 6.0's.
