A duh sorta newbie to fords question

ive had fords before, for short time. i just got on a trade, a friend needed a car for his wife so i got his 1980 f250 supercab long bed, that now has the f350 dually bed and rear axle under it, along with a 460/c6 combo 2wd, not too bad lil rust. i have always been a chevy guy.

duhh question of the year is why do i want to keep this?? it has alot of the things i look for in the "other" brand with dually, big block, supercab. it has good amount of newer parts, dual tanks. to convince someone whos on the fence, mainly because of lack of knowledge with fords. what is the advantage of keeping this truck versus, trading it for anooooooooother lol "other" brand. not trying to be smart azz or anything. i just want info so i can form an intellegent choice. honestly!!!! thank you ahead of time for any good or bad opinions, advice, knowledge.

You are lucky I'm on my iPhone and can't access the button in the upper right hand corner of this thread or else I'd give you some negative Rep points for this post.

Kind of what you just did to me for no reason when I was trying to help in the dually thread.....

Thanks for nothing there noobie.

And, if you have to ask something that dumb about why you own a Ford, you don't deserve the truck. Sell it to someone that can appreciate the truck for what it is and go get one from one of those "other" bankrupt manufactures........

Let's see...the OP doesn't want a Ford, so what are his other choices?

General aka Generous aka Garbage aka Government Motors is bankrupt (GMC, Chevrolet), so is Chrysler (Dodge).

Studebaker and Hudson are long oughtta business, Cornbinder no longer sells pickups, so what else does that leave?

I know...a Honda Ridgeline, Toileta Tundra or Nissan Titan...oh wait...it's been canceled.

Good one Bill, maybe we can sign up newbie for one of them Chinese built Hummers. I understand the melamine paint additive will keep em from rusting so quick and in a pinch you can add it to your babys' formula to stretch it a little.

I read somewhere...where I haven't a clue...that the Chinese are gonna....finally...add an accessory that all Hummer's need.

A magnatized rear bumper...to catch all the parts that fall off.

I really like the Chevy advert that states, 21MPG hwy. "No Other Full-Size pickup" has better fuel economy.

Perhaps someone should remind them that Ford has one, and beat them to the punch a whopping 29 Years ago.

Perhaps this advert from 1980 (for the 1981 model) would help...

Ah, but if you notice the fine print on the Chevy advert, "*based on 2008 GM large pickup segment and Silverado XFE." So what they are saying is no other pickup that THEY make gets better fuel economy. I understand now...

Relax guys! It seems the OP now owns two Fords. Here is our opportunity to show him what a great support network FTE is. Acting like Butt's is not the way to attract members to the exclusivity of Ford membership. Truck ownership is not a lifestyle decision. It's simply a material acquisition. I own both Ford and GM and value them equally. If you acquire Ford to the exclusion of all others, you don't really like trucks. You just have a fetish for Fords!

well here's my 2 cents....
i like chevy trucks, some of them are really cool looking and most of them are pretty reliable i HATE doge ANYTHING, except for the old chargers AKA general lee and i love my fords.... there are alot of little things that chevy does that annoys the hell out of me, but there isnt anything a dodge does that dosent **** me off IE removing the wheel and fender to change battery in most of their cars(and some trucks too?????) but ford does do some wiring things that irritate me. overall both chevy and ford had great trucks in the early 80s, they were both built to last and to perform without costing you an arm and a leg unlike newer chebby and ford trucks... i'm one of those people who are in love with the generation, not the brand. i happen to own a ford so i know more about fords than i do other cars, my lady's dad is a chevy man, but after working on my truck here and there he's come to like ford alot, he owns a 80somthing S-10 which is a really sharp looking truck and really does alot for a 4.somthing V6....
my only point really is is everyone has their own reason they chose ford... mine was bought new by my grandpa and i grew up in it, so i always wanted it... if he had a chevy i dont know if i would have liked it as much, the stepside chevy just dosent have the style the ford stepside has...
ok i'll shut up now

Man from what I have learned about these ford trucks is they are alot like chevys but just different systems. Both have there ups and downs. I think I would keep it a month or two and see if the old truck grows on ya or if not sale it and get something you will love to put 100s of hours of work into.
