Superduty rear leafs?

Hello, I have a '79 f-250, I already have a set of stock '01 superduty springs, which I will be placing on my truck shortly. Hope fully that will at least get me back to stock height (hoping for maybe some lift, springs are badly sagged) and bring a better ride. My question is if anyone knows if the rear springs on a superduty will bolt up/provide a better ride. If they require movement of just the rear hanger thats no big deal as I was going to do a shackle flip, but what about axle placement(front hanger)? Does anyone have specs on these springs? thanks

Off hand I have no idea. But just spend some time with a tape and I'm sure you'll find an answer. When you do a shackle flip it pushes the rear axle forward too. So maybe moving the front hanger would be a good idea. The hardest part is gettin the rivets out. I like to use a grinder and a air hammer. If the superduty springs are longer than the springs you have it will net a better ride and better articulation.

The center pin is way off. These springs will not go in without moving the hangers.
The 3" wide springs for the SDS truck are not really all that great for these early trucks. For the amount of work that this requires, why not install a really long spring back there like the 64" chebby rear spring?
Same work to install a much better spring and the advantages are far greater with the longer spring.
If you are gonna go through all of the work, why not maximize your effort? The rewards are very much worth it.

I would use chevy springs, but If i can buy just springs and not have to get hangers/shackles etc. that would be better...arent the chevys 2.5" wide? or am I way off?

The good ones are longer too. The added length provides far more articulation and performance than any shorter spring.
SD springs will require a hanger relocation as well, so if you are going to pop the hangers off, you might as well use the spring that will be of the greatest benifit.
These hangers are not all that difficult to remove.

If I were to go through all that trouble, wouldn't I just want to get some chebby springs and make custom hangers/ shackles and inboard the springs? I could bolt and/or weld a custom front hanger under the frame, and use a shackle setup similar to the front end? Wouldn't that really bump my articualtion, and still maintain some weight capacity?

Inboard mounts will provide much greater flex but this is ony because the mounting location kills the rate of the spring. You will also get quite a bit of sway with the inboard set up.
The 1500 series leaf in stock form has a great deal of capacity and offers quite a bit of flex. The same is true for the larger capacity 2500 and even the 3500 series leaf.
I have been using stock 3500 series leafs, and can stuff the tire way into the wheel well, and I get quite a bot of extension with room to go. My limiting factor is the shock length. With stock mounts the shock does not have enough travel.
64" rear springs will offer far more flex than you anticipate.
