Question Which one would you do?

O.K. fellas here goes,
I've got my hands on a 69 ranger lwb,no motor or trans,(thats how i got the truck was by pulling them out and giving them to the guy that hauled it)he only wanted them for builders, any how,the body is in GREAT condition for the most part,LF fender is needing a little attention, front bumper also on same side needs a lil tlc.and the front window needs replacing, thats about all. That being said, there WAS a GIGANTIC RAT and nest under the hood, he has completely destroyed the wiring harness, all of it, even inside the cab.The ranger was going to be a donor of the bed, and front clip ,including grille, to my 71 custom, but i had the brain fart of just transfering everything, power train, rear diff ,wiring harness, brand new steering everything, from my 71 to the 69 instead .WHICH WOULD YOU DO?I say transfer 71 to the 69 instead of 69 to 71, the wife says sell both, help settle this dispute please.

I used to say that it took about 5 trucks to make one good one, looks like you need to buy a couple more to help decide.

...IMO the wiring on these trucks are about as simple as it gets....just start from scratch and do a little at a time...they needed a "fuse box" and "lighting system" upgrade anyways even if rat didnt eat it...again JMO...redzone...

im with red. start over on the wiring and you can even go with a painless wiring system if you have the cash thats the only painful thing about it. but they are a very nice system

Which are you most comfortable with, mechanical or body work?

You might find the wiring harness in the other truck is a bit frail too when you start trying to pull it out.

Either way you end up with a nice truck. Or......work on them both and have two nice trucks.

We my deciding factor would be is any rust or damage to the core of the cab that would require major attention or even a cab swap on down the road. It doesn't sound like this is an issue for you but I would certainly give it a closer look.

well i have decided to rob the 69 of every part i needed for the 71.i'm mostly comfortable with the 71 because i have logged probably about 125 or more hours in it, repairing, replacing,or just cleaning it, front to back, top to bottom, therefore i know what is already there and road worthy.

I would go with the '69.....pre-1970 you will not have to deal with ANY emissions standards...as there were none for those trucks....the "muscle car era" ended in 1970 due to the newer restrictions on vehicles that the Government passed...plus, the 67-69 trucks are much sexier.....

well thank you for your input, but, by the time i get done ,it will basically be a 69 because the 71 is going to get the entire front clip(inners, outters, grille, etc.),the bed, tailgate, and all the little trinkets and trim pieces,so in other words i am transforming my 71 custom inta a 69 ranger.the only difference will be the mouldings off the side are going to be left off, because i don't have a full set.so what i'm gonna do is fill in all the seams on the body and slick side it so to speak.i saw this done once before on a 72.
