just bought '95 f-150 flareside.truck has 300-6 ,5-speed.the problem is ,today it ran hot, thermostat was stuck.so i pulled it out so i could drive it to the parts house .water pump is fine, but it is still running hot.got any ideas or suggestions ??i would appreciate any help.
It's worth your while to use a mechanical temperature gauge before you diagnose this problem any further, because the stock electrical gauge isn't very helpful. The stock gauge is meant as more of a go/no-go deal; there's no safe way to correlate the needle sweep with actual temperature numbers. A mechanical gauge will tell you the exact temperature of your coolant. It's the only proper way to get the job done (ignore any marketing crap you hear about IR guns, don't waste your time).
I own a '94 FlareSide with the 300 I6 also. I had a bad overheating issue. My motor would overheat in four to six hours running at 60+ mph. Me and dad changed out the thermostat. Problem solved. My coolant has recently been changed (not flushed) also, so I don't know if that helps. But my truck can still get pretty warm, but only if I'm revving the snot out of it on the highway. It stays nice and cool now with the AC on and going 70 mph.
Good luck!
Ps. Got any pictures of your truck? What do you think of the I6 / Stick combo?
thanks for the input guys.my truck will run hot after only a few mins.will put new thermostat in today and hopefully that will solve the problem.also plan th change the coolant while i am at it.will also try to post a pic or two .
If the old thermostat was stuck open, then running without a thermostat installed isn't going to help unless you are on the highway, and it won't help much at that. Install a new thermostat, flush the cooling system, put new coolant in.

check for exhaust gases in your antifreeze it may be a head gasket starting, my 89 started running a little warm under a load, and when i went to tow a boat home on i 84 in ct she finally let lose, sucked being stuck with boat and trailer on the highway
