05 HVAC Controls Not Working

05 HVAC Controls Not Working
05 X, EB, ~70K
This past Sunday started the X and the HVAC controls didn't light up or work, overhead rear controls worked fine. Everything came back on the 3rd try after turning off and re-starting the X.
This has happened a couple of times in the past couple of months, but appears to be occurring more regularly. Did a search and didn't see any posts related to HVAC controls.
Any suggestions before I break out the 2 volume factory repair manual?

I don't know what's going on with the Search function but it really stinks...
This is a common enough problem that I know there are a number of threads about it. Basically the head unit is failing and will need replacement. There may be more to it but it's not anything simple, really.
You may want to try searching via Google like this:
"Your search terms" site:http:// www. ford-trucks. com /forums/forum29
Put that in the search bar (remove spaces) and it will only search the Excursion forum.

Turn on the headlights from the switch and turn them back off, might need a couple of times but it works. Also, if you turn the truck off and restart it, it seems to work as well. Just had a thread on this last week.
