All,
I as many modular engine owners had my eye on changing the design of my 05 V10's y pipe. I looked at the pipes on SPD's page and decided that there might be an easier way than paying for one of theirs. I had a friend that runs a local indiana shop make one from aluminized and it turned out really well. I do have pics but I'll have to attempt to upload them later if anyone is interested. An added bonus is that there was no noticeable sound change and the horsepower gain was evident to me and especially in the upper RPM range. He is willing to make and install these for $100.00 and after seeing the finished product I am very happy with mine. Let me know if anyone wants any additional info. Thanks FTE,
Well, first off he did a quick weld job on it because we weren't even sure if I'd like it or want to do something different. The part I am most happy with can't actually be seen here, it's the inside. And SPD's pipe may be $89 but who is going to install it for 11$?? In other words you are going to have more than $100 cash outlay! When I said that I was happy it was because the sound to me is not different and also because he made the inside a smooth transition.
That's why I basically clamped mine on. I didn't want to pay extra to get it welded on.
Not that I paid for it in the first place, a caring member here gave it to me because he got an extra when the first one didn't show up, and was really sitting at a neighbor's house
And, if I were to do it again, and have it installed, I would have the local place make one under my direction. I don't see anything special about the eBay y-pipe, EXCEPT that it's mandrel bent.
And the one in the pictures above looks like a GREAT job, in terms of the bends.
