Holy crap its June and I forgot the Wisconsin boys! I haven't been around much lately cause of work and other miscellaneous... I finally got dads F-350 to my place! I've been workin on tearin the motor out tonight and tommorow it should come out. The torque converter seal was leakin like hell so were pulling the motor to fix the front and rear mains while giving access to the trans seal. When its back together I'm a diesel owner! Can't wait to get that billowing cloud of torque on the road !!!

Construction, either commercial building(prefered) or highway/heavy(NOT prefered) Both are really slow right now. Highway will pick up in the next month or so, then it's 50-70+ hours a week until November, then lay off again for 5 months. Most highway work is also out state work, which means living out of a suitcase a week at a time.

I think it's time for a career change.

They are putting the new hiway 41 in my back yard. I'll have to get better with posting the pictures and put one on here. I don't know if they are looking for help.

Front seal on my E4OD went out last year, front bushing had failed. My transmission guy says he's seen a few of them do that. Might be a good idea to make sure the bushing behind the seal on your transmission is OK.

The tranny was rebuilt about 30k ago so it should have been upgraded to the "post '95" spec. I'll check to see if theres a lot of play in the shaft but hopefully its just the seal. Right now I'm only 4 flexplate bolts and back the motor mount bolts out the rest of the way from having the motor out. I'm scared and excited at the same time, this is the first vehicle I've pulled anything major out of!

That 7.3 IDI is a heavy sucker isn't it? LOL!
With diesel about .30 cheaper than gas its not hard to figure out which truck I've been using lately.

Yeah its heavy! I wish I knew the motor couldn't fit out the engine bay without the fan removed, we were all set to pull it out and the fan caught on the core support. I have to wait till monday when my buddy can bring his tool for holding the water pump in place while the fan is unscrewed. I'm hoping to have it all back together by next weekend. I figured I'd hold off on doing the main seals (the front is $70!) so just valve cover seals, drain pan seal, and the torque converter seal for now. Pete, what kind of mileage does your diesel get? The guy helping me says he's got a friend with a 6.9L 4spd that will pull down 17mpg. Beleivable? Don't ask me! I'm thinkin I'll drive whichever vehicle is cheapest to run at the time depending on gas/diesel prices. Lazy sunday huh guys?

I get about 14-15 mpg with the diesel, which is 3-4 mpg better than my 97 will do with normal usage. I've never taken the diesel on a trip long enough to check highway milage. I'm thinking mine could do 16-17 on a road trip.

Well if it gets 15 mpg its doin as good as my dakota! On the Banks website their baseline test of a stock IDI vs one with their turbo says the stock version 2wd gets 22mpg! If I can pull down 17 I'll be a heckuva happy camper!
