Trucks got over 30K miles so, I go to change my fuel filter today. I got a filter at Autozone a few weeks ago, they didn't have Motorcraft so I got their brand. The P/N is FF687. Imagine my surprise when removing the factory filter (after getting dowsed with gas) and installing the Autozone one that the stems are not the same size. The one they gave me are smaller in diameter. When I went to start the car, sure enough it leaked. Autozone F'tards...So, I unhook the bad filter (another gas shower), reinstall the factory filter and off to O'Reilly's for a Motorcraft filter.
So, just a note, because it's not documented on here...Autozone P/N FF687 does not work on a 2006 Flex 5.4L with a late build date. Save yourself a gas shower and stick with the Motorcraft.
I checked the Autozone site twice...even the '07 and '08's list the same part number. So all 07 and 08 guy beware as well. Strangely enough, all the other part sites make mention of BEFORE 12/05/05 and AFTER 12/05/05 build dates when selecting the filter. Obviously, the BEFORE is the smaller nipple.
I'm surprised this has gone undocumented in their system so long. The smaller filter leaked like a sieve.
just like the spark plug swap for the 2008 models...depending where you look, you'll either get the "old" style that is 1-piece, or the newer improved style
Parts Stores are slow to catch on...but that is somewhat excessive. These trucks have been around for quite some time now...especially as they are the "old" F-150 now
