ok as most know i have posted on here that i seemed to have really really low egts but lots of black smoke, well the other day i painted my engine ford blue i wanted to paint it before i put the turbo on, and i also sprayed some paint on the manifolds well i havent put probly 100 miles on it since i painted it, but i did get out on our road and smoke some tires and wind her out a few time in first and second and brought the egt gauge up a little past 350 degrees which i have figured is wrong only thing is the paint still hasnt burnt off of the manifolds yet and it been painted for 3 or 4 days and drove it every day since then, and its only 500 degrees engine paint?? so is my exaust temp really this low?
My truck typically runs around 400 - 600 degrees EGT, on flat ground and constant speed. Up a hill, or accelerating hard it briefly goes as high as 1100, but then cools back down to the normal range. The hottest part of the exhaust manifold it going to be the exhaust gas traveling through it. The outside of the manifold will be cooler. I would think you need a long pull (miles maybe) up a hill, perhaps loaded to get the outside of the manifolds much over 500 degrees. Don't get me wrong though, I don't expect that pain to last very long, just not burn up and fall off immediately.
