Hi guys, I have a 2001 F250 V8 5.4 with 247,000 KM.
My truck will never turn on the first time if it has had a significant down time, or cold weather. It will sputter and fail to start, and the second attempt it will fire up with no problem.
My coil packs are in good shape, brand new spark plugs - any help will be greatly appreciated.
I don't have a OBD metre to pull any codes and mechanic wants 75$ to pull codes. I took a look at all the electrical terminals on the starter and beside the battery are pretty corroded...would this have an effect on my issue?
You know, I can't give you any really good reason for it, but I'm thinking fuel, not electrical. Yes, its remotely possible that current running through some corroded terminal someplace heats up on the first start attempt and then works okay the second time around, but I just don't believe it. I'd think reduced fuel line pressure that has built up acceptably by the second pass.....
May be low compression on a motor with high mileage. At the place I used to work we had an old post office truck with the 300 six banger and it had about 400,000 miles on it and when it was cold we had to crank it for about 30 to 45 seconds before it would start, but it ran o.k. when it did.
