Protecting the rad

Just thought I'd share a tip with all you FTE's members out there. When I first picked up my dream ride, I noticed looking through the grill after a week of driving, that the rad fins had sustained some small stone makings on the fins. Well this is not going to continue, not on my watch. So I started to work on some protective material as so so prevent this from getting any werse. At my local hardware stone I purchased a sheet of stainless steel meshing, about a 2ft X 2ft sheet. I removed the grill and cut out a form fitting piece for the upper rad and fastened it to the bulkhead that holds the rad in place. I did the same to the lowwer rad as well. Since I just thought of posting this idea this morning, I have no pic's to show you. But I will be posting some in my gallery later this afternoon. If anyone else has done the same or alittle different, I's like to here from you and see if my idea can be improved upon.

I've used sceen. It's tough enough to stop small stones and bugs but cheap enough and simple enough to install frequently if it gets damaged.

I noticed the same thing after my first road trip. I am interested in seeing what you come up with!

I couldn't find any S.S. screen so I ended up using plain old galvanized. Two MN winters later and all of my radiators still look like new. Mine is installed behind my grill insert and is virtually invisible.

Overall, I think it's a great idea, especially if you live where they like to throw sand / rocks on the icy winter roads.
