starter info

My truck has been starting hard lately, of course first I checked batteries.
Actually repaced under warranty (intertate). Then i pulled satrter and had Autozone check it out. They said it was Fine! RIGHT.

anyway i thought it might be over my head so i took the truck to a local (Houston) guru to diagnose the problem. He called me later and said it was the starter! said it was pulling 700 amps.

he gave me a quote for a stock starter(700) and a Gear reduction starter (796).. he told me they basically install an adapter plate and install this starter. I had never heard of this before. anyway I had to tow the truck home. Got online and found a great company that had the starter and adapter plate. starter 129 adapter 39. $12 shipping. received within 3 days.

Installed starter today
all I can say is WOW what a difference. engine might turn over 1.5 times and it is started. It actually scared me when i turned it over for the first time.

putting in a starter. check this out

I was not aware that an Adapter Plate" was required when replacing the "Stock" starter with a "Hi Torque" starter. Has anyone else had to use an adapter plate when changing?

Not sure about that vendor. Of course adapter plates for starters are pretty common. But I don't recall ever seeing one for these rigs. I do like the $200 CPS....... HMMMMM...... Don't think they move allot of those. But if the starter works well it's a good thing.

TX, did that thing come with instructions? If so maybe you could scan it and post it. Be interesting to see.

no instructions. The adapter is about 5/8" thick. You will need to get longer bolts. Wiring is the same also.

turns the truck over SOOOOOOOO easy.

i would recommend this swap to anyone. I'm very happy. The company also answered any questions i threw at them. Very good customer service.

Does this starter resemble the starter that you installed?
(That is if the link opens)

If that is the starter, it is a lot smaller than the stock one. I replaced mine about 4 years ago and it is huge.

That's pretty cheap. I think a paid right at $200 for a new one when I replaced mine last year.

I've heard of the high torque ones, but never a adaptor for the PSD.
