I have a 10" sub powered by a Fosgate amp. On my way home yeterday it stopped working. I checked all of the connections and nothing seems loose. How can i tell if the problem is with the speaker or the amp.
Do you have a DMM? First check for 12vdc on the power rail and then make sure there is 12v on the remote lead. If you have 12+vdc, check for AC voltage on the leads for the speaker. IT should have ~30VAC (AC not DC). If you have DC turning the amp on, and AC at the speaker leads, then the amp is probably working (unless you have no input and there is no AC output.)
You can try disconnecting the leads for the speaker and check it's continuity. I would expect 2-7 ohms with the cone neutral. You could also try putting the meter on VAC and moving the speaker in, the voltage should jump up as the speaker moves.
