Hey gang. I got my gauges installed @ a month ago, and have pulled my 5'er(@7500 lbs) a couple times. EGT management is a frustrating game on some passes in CO & UT. Truck was chipped when I bought it. I pulled the chip today. It is a Diablosport that looks like the picture of delta chip on Diablo web site. It is not a multi-position chip. I plan to run this way to see difference. My questions are:
1. any way to tell what this chip was set up for?
2. do different chips play better with our trucks for EGT?
I was looking at 4" exhaust systems to help EGT, then read about low end loss @ bigger than 3.5". Also read @ benifits with Walker BTM. I'm not looking for huge HP, just better driveability, towing. Thanks in advance for any info.
I had there diablo predator tuner. It was ok over the years, but I was never real impressed with the performance. I just bought a dptuner f5 and will tell you there is no comparison in power.
As far as losing low end torque with bigger exhaust: I went to a 5" and lost a little but deffinately made up for on mid to top end. It bumped the "power band" up a couple hundred rpm's.
I live in Utah and tow 13.5k up Parleys. My upgrades in my signature will help you alot with little out of pocket for the performance increase in towing.
Upgrading to a bigger exhaust will help lower EGT's, most do a 4" system from MBRP or a different manufacturer. A bigger air filter will also help lower EGT's and most here will run a 6637 because they are cheap good quality filter. I would also check all your inter cooler boots and make sure that all clamps are tight because any loss of air will result in loss of power and and increase in EGT's. If you are still getting high EGT's I would look into a better chip, but try the air filter, boots and then the exhaust.

I don't know the question to answer #1, but I'd say you'll have to send it in and get it read to find out. Or maybe a diablo dealer can tell you.
Question #2 is a big fat yes. Not only different chips, but different tunes. If you're trying to tow 7500# up grades and you have a hp tune vs a tow tune, you'll be having a bad day. Until I knew what it was I'd pull it if I was towing; or keep your eye on those EGTs very closely.
Thanks for the replys. I was told by PO it was a 60 HP tow tune on a superchip. Well, may be 60 HP tow, but not superchip so it's staying out for now. Hopefully AIS and zoodad complete tomorrow.
Yep, I like it. I'd like to have a 4" exhaust, but I did a lot of stuff all at the same time and will need to save up. But for now I think it's great. Not really louder at all, just hear turbo whistle a little more. I can't verify if it helped EGTs or not, I did it before the gauges. But the install was easy. A sawzall and a couple pipe clamps and a welder; I was done in less than an hour.
