just found an 86 f150 with a efi 302 in it. the guy said it will run on its own but if you push the gas pedal down it starts backfiring through the intake. i'm thinking its either the fuel pump is going bad or the map sensor might of took a dump. anyone else have any ideas? he only wants 300 bucks for the truck.
Plug firing order is wrong
Some of the valves are badly worn, broken, or bent.
Could also just be really bad plug wires that are arcing between themselves.
just got back from looking at the truck a little while ago. he said it started acting up after he changed the cap and rotor. so im thinking it might just be wired wrong on the cap. i should be getting the truck tomorrow so we'll see what happens. thanks for the help.
well, got the truck. there were 2 plug wires that were switched around and it was running on fumes. put some gas in it and swapped the wires, started right up. not bad for a $300 truck lol.
did a compression test on it. there were 6 that had a little over 100psi , the other 2 were at 75psi. still pops through the intake but not near as bad. buddy of mine thinks the intake valves might be wore out. sound about right?
pulled the motor today, number 3 intake and number 7 intake valves were worn bad. ah well, got a low milage 302HO to put in her . save the old motor for a future build for another mustang.
heh this post reminds me of when i got my 84 bronco for $200.. guy said it had a bad fuel leak, and that _ALL_ of the fuel lines needed replacement.. I started it up and said "yup. all the lines are bad".. turns out, it was just the 5" hose from the fuel pump steel line to the carb.. had her fixed in about 5 minutes..
