E4OD question
I have he E40D in my '91 f-150, and whenever I change gears, the little orangish red thing, covers every gear all the way except drive. Half of the "D" will be white, and the other half will be half of the little orange thing that lets you know what gear you are in.
Because it is not going on all the way, is this showing me their is a problem with drive? Or is it just some stupid superficial thing and it doesn't matter?

It is just a stupid superficial thing and doesn't matter. You have either broken the housing for the tiny cable in the steering column (likely) or it has slipped out of adjustment (unlikely). Either way, it's easy to replace/readjust. Pull the round plastic collar off of the column and it's right there.

Do you have the factory owner’s manual on hand? Look inside there and see if you can find the spot about emissions warning indicators. Some body in Washington, that must have thought it a joke, decided that it would be a good idea to visibly warn the owner it was time to get their emissions checked. The automakers came up with this “red flag” idea. Their goal was to get you back into the dealership for an “inspection”. The flag was supposed to go off at 60K then every 20K afterwards. The thing is, is that it seems 80% of them didn’t work and the ones that did only worked half the time. My mothers 90 LTD had that little flag come up on her after only 6300 miles.
