ok guys ive been collecting my things here for the last few months and didnt want to let the word out just yet, but i finally got the last last piece so some time this weekend ill be powder coating my first part and as soon as its done. ill post pics on the forum i also have my own sandblaster, so if your parts rusty i can take care of that to. one of the first pieces ill be doing is an altenator casing for my truck ill probally be selling it if anyones interested
Powder coating is fun, i've been doing it for about 3 years. Since you havnt powder coated anything before, you're going to realize there are other things you will want/need such as more tools. It definetly cost's a lot to get into it, but hey, once i got in it, it was too late to back out.
thanks i appreciate the heads up but i assure you i didnt jump in head first i did plenty of reasearch to get everything i need on hand b4 i even started but if you dont mind send pics of your work please
I'll find some pics, but i did month's worth of research. It's just one of those "hobbie" that you find different things work differently. I baught a sandblaster and dont even use it near as much as i thought i would. Aircraft stripper in the aerosol can and you can find a plastic wire brush in the house paint section of wal-mart... that is my favorite combination for stripping these days. Blasting if i have a spot that i dont think i can get the stripper out of a hole or i have a bit of surface rust.
Like i said, you'll see what i mean the more experienced you become.
No joke. My first mistake was falling for the Dekot stripper from eastwood, slow and junk. Are you just using a kitchen oven?
This is my valve cover and cold air intake I did for my Neon (sold) which is the culperate for getting me into Powder coating. The valve cover is anodized red and the CAI pipe is wrinkle black with the M and mopar in anodized red to match the valve cover.
I have done CB radio's, wrench's, shifters... you name it. If it's metal, it's not safe!
(I was going to try and get more of my pictures from my eastwood forum, but it's down for maint so this is the only pic i have right now.)
I ended up getting into other custom stuff also like fiberglassing, airbrushing and it keeps going. I know how to glass etch and Carbon fiber, but i have yet to do that much with them.
sweet nice work i guess ill let the final cat out of the bag i own and run a local car club in my town (mostly tuners) but we welcome pretty much everything as long as its yours and you plans to do your own work on it we are each branching out in to our own things we have one guy doin carbon fiber and fiberglassing another one does air brushing and one in upholstery and one in audio electronics i dont know if you have heard of the orion, sony , or memphis bass truck its been redone by all 3 of those big names and the truck now belongs to my friend and he currently is giving it his own twist.. but any information you can give on any of these subjects would be much appreciated
I have nothing to add to the Powder coating conversation, except I'd like to get the kit they sell at summit and try it out on some stuff.
That Orion truck is awesome, it looks like it's straight out the 90's. I had a friend with a Black Mazda with a full snugtop like that, he had a wall of 12's, it kicked a$$.
I cant see it untill i get home because it's photo bucket, but i'll take a look shortly.
Sounds like you all have a great thing going. I keep all of my work as a hobby because most people tend to hate what they love when they turn it into a job, but if you dont let that happen, you'll have it made. I'm currently working on a fiberglassed gauge cluster for my '77 and then i'll do fiberglassed door panels and fiberglassed sub box.
I havnt been on there in awhile since i'm on here so much, but eastwood's forum is GREAT for powder coating. Lots of very helpfull people on there. You'll have to post up pictures when you get started and if you have any questions, just ask me, i can answer just about anything with PCing
to dforgy thanks for all your help today maybe we can trade more pics and stories later tonight

I recommend eastwood's hobby gun, easy to clean and durable, as well as just as cheap as anyone else. Eastwood is just as cheap as anyone on their products, but you can get in on the buyers club for $30 and that gets you free shipping for a year.
