How do you think the brand got to be known as Fix Or Repair Daily ?
There should be a fill plug on the side of the tranny case. Take the plug out and use your pinky finger as a dip stick to check the oil level (yes, that is the factory specified method) The level should be just below the fill hole.
All garages had oil drip pans on the floor back then. It wasn't a matter of if they were going to leak, just where and how much...
