i have two ford trucks 1 of which has the typical for rust the other hast that plus the chipping/peeling paint to go with it
i was thinkin about just doin rattle can jobs but to paint two trucks with rattle cans would probably cost more anyway so i have a few questons
first off how do you "properly" clean a spray gun between primer/paint/clear?
like i said i own rust buckets, i plan on fixing the rust but is there a primer that will help keep it gone?
neither paint job will be incredibly detailed i was thinkin about a slightly darker blue (little darker than current) on the 4x4 and jet black on the 4x2 that way i dont have to get into the door jams and interior in the case of the blue one
any suggestions/advice for a rook who wants a decent paint job...keep in mind the blue one is a bush beater so i need a stong paint for that one...how many coats or paint/primer/clear is recommended for this?
thank you for your help guys i want to get these things painted and the 4x4 will be first probably a summer project
For rust prevention, the only way to totally acheive that is for rust removal. As for cleaning guns, just use laq thinner and an acid brush to clean the gun between products. As for what the best paint to use, at least for the beater I would use acrylic enamel (Or straight enamel if you can protect EVERYTHING including you from overspray or you will turn into that sticky fly trap paper) I usually do a self etching primer, body work (When using filler, you have to go back to bare metal) then acrylic primer (at least 2 coats) then 3 to 4 coats of the enamel.
Your other truck you could do in the enamel as well to cut down on costs (you can use all products but the color) or use a laquer. The more expensive route is Base coat clear coat.
