I have read about all of the satisfied folks out there who think this is the best thing since sliced bread.
I'm almost convinced but need to be reassured.
Has anyone had any issues with the Multiple Displacement Engine?
I would like to hear from some of the not so satisfied customers about any down side to the Edge.
For the most part, it is the best thing since sliced bread. I'd highly recommend the Edge. Since you are in TX, get the FWD instead of AWD though. I have had(along with thousands of others) problems with the PTU on the AWD versions. I also just this week had to have it in for a loose nut on the steering stabilizer tightened(clunking when I drove over bumps). I believe that problem was probably related to the 3 times it has been apart for the PTU seal leaks and replacement. If you go to fordedgeforms.com, you can check it out. I think it is a good vehicle, but the PTU is a problem, and a big one for anyone with an AWD Edge, Flex, Taurus X, whatever uses the same PTU - they are all having problems with them. Some of the cars never have it, but it seems as though a lot are. I wouldn't be worried about the engine at all. It seems very well designed. Lots of power and I'm getting 29 mpg with it.
Juneau - I dont' get it either, but I'm not complaining - it seriously is averaging between 27-29 mpg with mixed driving - in Montana none the less. I'm running mid-grade gas, but it is bone stock. My friend has an 08 limited and can sometimes squeeze 24 out of it, but says it is usually around 22. My wife drives it primarily, so maybe she's really light on the gas, but it has been way better than we could have ever expected out of it. The same friend is getting 14 with his v10 and I'm only getting 12 with mine, so we kind of even out a bit, but it's fun to raz each other about it.
I found a 2009 SEL with 5500 miles on it. I got it for about 2500 more than a 2008 SEL with 30K on the ticker. Have spent the week trying to figure out where to put 'my necessities" from my 99 Expedition into the "new" edge, still have a couple things to do yet.
Took our new to us 07 Edge on a 1400 mi trip and the lie-o-meter which was hovering around 21mpg when we purchased it got up to 22.something half way thru the trip, so I reset it for the return leg and with a headwind most of the day, it settled in at about 26.4. This is a fwd only and is really comfortable on road trips. Better than my 05 GT which was traded in.
I am averaging 24.5 in summer weather with my 2007 AWD MKX. North Dakota winters with a lot of idling and 40 degrees below zero will take the average down to about 18.5
