Sport Trac tailgate lock question

Sport Trac tailgate lock question
I bought a 2004 Sport Trac with the locking tailgate. I only got one key with the vehicle. Should the ignition key fit the tailgate lock? It doesn't seem to fit in there. Just curious. Thanks.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic but I forgot to take my camera to the shop today. Here's my ignition key in the tailgate lock .......... and it locks/unlocks it.

Maybe, kinda hard to see in there but my key will only go about 1/4" into the lock. I guess I'll have to take a closer look and see what I can tell. Thanks.
