04 F150 changed breaks, ABS issues.
I went to pep boys and purchaced new rotors and ceramic pads for the front of my '04 F150 Supper Crew XLT. I have never replaced discs before as all my previouse vihicles had drums. It looked straight forward so I gave it a shot. Everything went together well. I did re-use the big nut holding the rotor on which states right on it that it should be replaced. As it has a cotter pin and it tightened right up I thought it would be OK. The thing is, now even when applying light break pressure the ABS kicks in. The ABS light comes on after the breaks have been applied a few times and stays on until the truck is turn off. I mention re-using the nut as it is the only deveation I (knowingly) made during install. I did not open the system, I used a C clamp to open the caliper and inserted the pads, removed/replaced the rotor, and re-assembled everything. I bought this truck new in 04 and this is the first time the breakes have been worked on. The truck has 46,000 miles on it. I have yet to replace the back breaks. I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake on the back end. Any ideas?
1. I would flush the system with fresh fluid
2. The next time the abs goes on....stop, tap on each wheel sensor and see if the ABS light goes out, then check to make sure the sensor is connected correctly, moisture, etc and if everything checks out ok replace that sensor.
I pulled the right front wheel and spun the rotor. Looking at the ABS ring in the back I noticed it was not turning true, it wobled. I located the low side and used a 2 foot breaker bar to bump it "UP". This insured the ring kept a constant distance from the sensor. The right side needed no adjustment.
