Ford 9" Venting

OK. I have 50 F-1 that I put a 9" out of a 64 into. Shouldn't it be vented somewhere? I'm thinking the block that couples the brake lines also acts as a vent but I'm not sure. The reason I ask is that I had a leak on the passenger side and took it apart to find the seal pushed all the way out and ruined. I put it back together and later checked the fluid and noticed air getting sucked in or pushed out when I loosened it so maybe pressure forced the seal out?

Yes, the block where the brake lines come togather, there should be a nipple and a hose running up to the frame.

On my '61, the bolt which holds the brake line splitter doubles as the vent.

I had seals leaking one time and the vent was the first thing I looked at. It was blocked. It's easy to clean. Just remove it from the axle housing, and use a small drill bit with your fingers to remove the crud.

Thanks! This one has a cap that's crimped on and no hose. Just pry it off?

The block itself has nothing to do with venting the axle.

The brass block for the rear brake hose has a hole in it. The vent (B8A4022A -1957/63) passes thru this hole, threads into the housing.
