We are boxing the frame on the next truck and want to replace the rear major stock cross member with something else.. 2x3 rect wall tube I think..
(running TCI MII front end and leaf springs rear).. haven't decided on the 454 we have vs the TBI injected SB)..

i know I have seen a couple members galleries that demonstrate how they did this.. anyone have any pointers, or comments..

thanks

Sam

I guess you could use a 2x3,..laid horizontal at the top of the frame and gussetted at both sides should be plenty strong, and kinda resemble the original, a 2x6 with a c-notch for driveshaft clearence could work..have you considered a tubular "K" member?, I've seen alot of "K" members constructed with two parallel 1x2 frames..leaves lot's of room for exhaust, 2x6 'c' channel works too in some cases.,and can be boxed later or passageways left for exhaust.Check out Kugals Speed Shop for more ideas.. as always, it's good to have the drivetrain mocked into place for clearence ... just a couple of thoughts.

oh yeh, nothing like having the drivetrain in place..and the body/rad support at least..

I didn't think of that on my current 460 setup, and could have used that extra inch at the front.
