OK I have a stock 460 with a c6 behind it. Im going to install temp guages in both. I do tow alot so i want to keep an eye on it all. But I dont have any idea what they should be. Help!
Depending on what your oil temps are will help choose what oil weight to use.
While towing, say up some mountains, a load that is making your truck work hard, but not something that calls for wide open throttle for miles up a long incline.. you could see temps anywhere from 240F to 280F. Whereas, normal driving would get you 180F-210F.
The temp gauge will be the only way to know because we don't know your towing conditions, engine speeds, etc. But, when you find out the temps, and they are hitting 240F+, I'd recommend a 40 weight, such as 5W-40 Rotella-T Synthetic.
How about the transmission about the same? Im running 10w40 in the engine. Its only got 900 miles on it so far and I want to make sure that it will last. When its cold i have 70psi or so. Once its hot 180-210 on the water side it runs at about 40psi@2500rpm. Give or take a little. Id like to switch to a full synthetic. how many miles do you think till I should switch over?
