More than likely gearing. I would imagine the weight would be very close between the two given the weight difference between a Scab and Screw & 2wd vs. 4wd.

What's the axle code on the door jamb on his truck?

the Screw weighs about 5,700 lbs
the Scab weighs about 5,700 to 5,800

You would think the Screw would weigh more, but it's due to the 4x4 component weights...roughly 300 lbs for the front diff and t-case

what is the axle code on each truck?
you both are likely to have 3.55 is they're both XLT's

btw, it also has alot to do with how each truck is driven.
the transmission has an adaptive capability.

it basically learns your driving style, and adjusts shift points and shift hardness accordingly.

so if you drive it soft and slow, it shifts nice and smooth

if you drive it hard, it shifts harder, and there is more "performance" felt
