rear axle
whats the rear axle on a 79 f100 2wd? it has no inspection plate, just thought that was a little weird. and i want to put in something with disc brakes, any recommendations?

My '78 F100 2wd had a 28 spline 9" in it. Chances are your's is too. They make kits to put disk brakes on 9"s. But make sure to find one that has a parking brake, because the cheaper kits do not. I've seen a guy use the disk brakes off a newer '90s Explorer. I know he said there wasn't much to the swap, but I don't know what all he had to do.

Your most likely ones are a Ford 9" it will be round/oval with 10 bolts.
Also available is the Dana 44 it will be hexagon'ish with 10 bolts as well.
There were more available but these two were the most common. There are disk brake kits for both of these axles. Also look for numbers on the long tube to the right of the pumpkin and google them.
