Flywheel
I swapped my 5 speed for a C6 last year but I am going back to the 5 speed to sell the truck. The flywheel has dirt and a little rust on its surface. How do I go about cleaning this off, carb and choke cleaner and so steel wool? get it resurfaced? ??
Thanks for you help with this!
if its only been a year it is probably not that bad.
wire brush, 60 grit sand paper dust it off and run it!
the clutch will naturaly clean it up the rest of the way, kinda like your disk brakes when it sits a while they get rusty too but they soon fix themselves.
If it is really nasty and pitted and been laying out in the rain and mess then it would be wise to get it resurfaced.
I have run some pretty rusty flywheels without a problem, the only thing you should notice is a slight hiss as it engages the clutch disc.
but when in doubt resurface it! and check the condition of the ring gear while it is off! for what little it costs to do a clutch its always best to do it right, resurface flywheel, new clutch disc, new pilot bearing, new throwout bearing and that way you know that it is going to work good.
