Driving along just fine, pulled into the parking lot when in, got what I needed and came out to click, click click. Then took the key out and heard click click click faster and then nothing. The lights work, the radio works, the windows go up and down. Tried jumping the battery - no difference. Only background issue was the left turn signal indicator was blinking fast on occassion. Not consistently. No lights were observed as being out though. Was going to have it fixed at inspection time (two weeks from now), but am thinking blinking might have something to do with my issue. Also the windshield wipers moved on their own, so I'm thinking some sort of short.
Walked away (in disgust) and came back opened the door and before putting key in ignition I heard click click click as if some power was already on and being used.
Welcome to FTE. Why don't you tell us a little bit more about your truck. The super duty section covers many different year models, so if you have an 85 F350, odds are it's a different problem than a 2008 F350.
I will say clicking is usually a voltage issue. The first thing to do with voltage issues is to check the battery cables and grounds for loose or corroded connections. Was it raining where you are today? Another possibility would be GEM / VSM (model year dependent) issues. Do you have an aftermarket alarm or remote start?
Dang...I seem to keep following him.....
Once again...what he said. Low voltage will cause relays to not quite work and they will start clicking. Have both batteries checked...I would be willing to bet that one or both are not holding a charge. If they check out then have the alternator checked for not charging. But first...check all connections. Clean then as well. a bad connection can cause your problem too. Battery connections and grounds from the battery.
