i was thinking that the 302 that is in my truck is orginal however when i go to order parts it says that only a 300I6 or a 460 was the two engine options is this right?
You could get a 302 in a 79 F150 I think it was a G code. Not sure but they do exist I bought motor mounts for one from O'Reilly to do my cleveland swap. You could also get a 351M or a 400.

For 79 you could get the 300 I six, 302, 351M,400 and the 460. You must be dealing with the computer at the parts counter not having the right info and someone who knows nothing about that area of vehicles. Canadian Tire hear is famous for it, I was told numerous times that a 460 did not come in a f150 cause it's not listed in the computer, then the old parts guy goes to the dusty book behind him and find the right parts, rather fustrating at times.
alright i guess my other question is how do you read the manufactured in canada tag because it doesnt have provisons that say axle code or engine code just a letters out by there self
Here in the US the engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN, should be F then two numbers and then the engine code it they read like ours. If you want just post you info and get it decoded here by some one that has the proper info, I did both of mine that way because I can find the info either.

I had a 79 F150 with a 302 in it that looked dead factory stock. It had a 3sp + OD RUG manual tranny. My understanding is that 302's have been an option from the late 60s through 95 or whenever the 4.6 motors took over. I've also seen a 79 with a 302 and a stepside bed that looked to be dead factory stock.
I doubt that your truck had a C6 originally. I believe that in 79, a C4 would have been the stock automatic. That small block C6 probably came out of a van.
