I see a few questions on manifold gaskets leaking.first how do you know if it's leaking. What are the symptom's I just put my engine together and it's not running all that great, wondering if maybe I have a leak. I went to the Harbor Freight store today to buy a vacuum test gauge but they didn't have one. When I find one do I check the vacuum at the power brake booster or elsewhere. The engine seems to stumble on the way up but when I hold it at about 2500 rpm it seems to run good, also rougher than normal idle. What's good vacuum 15 psi?
TIA
John
Carb cleaner works very well. Spray around carb base, intake and any diff in rpm will show up leaks. Here is the best site I have found for trouble shooting with a vacuum gauge: On Fire
15" of manifold vacuum is alright, more important is that it is a steady reading.
Thats some right good imformation on that site, only thing though I'm trying to figure out how I can print those two pages off cause I know I'll forget, but how do you do it & the gauges still move.
Thanks, Neil

You can't print and have the gauges move, but you can right click and save to documents. That way you can pull it up and view without being online. I have printed both pages and the info under each pic does explain what is going on. Just not as visual.
One of these day's I'm going to buy a cheap laptop so I can carry my info to the garage.
