I have a '99 flareside reg cab and have already purchased lightning rims and the exhaust system and the engine/most interior, but I was just wondering if anyone on this board knows of a company or a website that sells the lightning ground effects or that could custom make me one that looks identical to it. Thx in advance and I know i will get slammed by the people saying "just buy a lightning" but this is a project car for me, one of my first and im just having fun.
I checked Cervinis for you. All they have are hood's (which is in this months issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, RAM air with Duel K&N intake, very cool).
I am thinking Ford Racing (www.fordracing.com) may have something like this in their catalogue? I have never seen one, so I don't know, but someone reading this must have one they can check. You can order it from that website.
You may be able to get a front clip from a salvage yard, or body shop? Somebody (unfortunatly) must have wrecked one by now.
Hopefully you have better luck than I. I am going to do a 95 lightning replica, but since SVT never sold anything in Canada until 96, the lightnings were never up here. So parts hunting in the states will be $$$
Actually, I had the chance 2 years ago to buy the first SVT ever sold in Canada. It came here in New Brunswick to the SVT dealer in Fredericton. Then it was sold new to another Ford dealer in Miramichi. It was a black Cobra, and had all of the SVT literature, including a letter from Ford of Canada President, stating that it was the first Canadian Cobra.
That's easy enough to answer
$37,950 was the reason, that's in Can $, taxes in. I had just started my first job, right out of college, and I didn't want to take on that much of a payment that quick. I am currently building an 85 Saleen replica, so that will have to do for now.
Did you say you put a S/C 5.4 in your Flareside? How much work was it - did you have a shop do it for you? Any problems since? Wiring, electrical - A/C, heat, alternator, etc?
The reason I ask is that I was contemplating the crate swap myself.
Some "other" things beside an engine that I believe you'll need to do a swap is the transmission, computer, wiring harness, and complete fuel system - all of which are unique to the Lightning. You can drive the engine with any 8 cylinder coil-on-plug computer, but you won't have the correct timing and fuel maps (fixable to some degree with an aftermaket chip) nor control of the bypass valve. Same applies to the transmission.
You'd be better off looking for a blower and custom tuning for your specific application.
There is a company I believed is called AAC AMerican Auot Classics or something like that...they make them..if you do a search for ground effects or mustang body parts something like that they should come up..they were featured in an issue of sport truck so they might be able to tell you who it was ..it was an install article..also steeda has them( www.steeda.com)Steeda is high quality and I would definitely recommend them.
As far as I know right now you can get a ground effects kit that is comprable to that of the '99 lighting from Wings West Company. It comes in a black color so it needs to be painted. If you can get ahold of a back issue of Truckin' magazine look at, Jan. 2001, page 220 they have the kit on an extended cab F-150. The website for the company is www.wingswest.com . Before you go buying it you might want to get the back issue because it shows before and after photographs as well as step by step ones.
