translate mechanic talk please?

my mechanic, said that he would charge me about 450 for a tune up, the most important part he mentioned that this takes care of is, a fuel injector cleaning: done by going under the throttle body and doing sometype of induction cleanse to get all the carbon out the engine .. no this maybe be a stupid question but isnt that what seafoam does ??

can isave money by doing the seafoam cleanse through the PCV line or what he will do, whatever it is, is far superior..

1999
F-250
V10 .. and yes i kinda am having problems, if you look over the past weeks threads, i have been on a search for the best info on trying to pull off a DIY tune up ... i am thinking about doing seafoam if it rivals procedure that my mechanic is doing.. outside of that I am just trying to get my V10 back to a V10... spark plugs, coolant flush, oil change, filter change, O2 sensor, throttle body cleaning, air filter, etc...

any shop recommendations in the local area?

LOL your finding out why mechanics charge so much to do service huh? Yes do it yourself and save the money, also stay on top of that. Keep adding injector cleaner to the tank every once in a while.

Sounds like your mechanic might be selling you a muffler bearing upgrade. Do it all yourself and save some dough. Its all really simple to do, well except those damn spark plugs on the V10, what moron designed those things, so glad I got a diesel now.

I did a service for a friend last week, cleaned the throtle body, did the fuel injection service and replaced the PCV valve. A dealer would have charged at least $250 for that service, parts was I think $35.

If you have a V-10, it increases your chances of having a V-10 with piston slap.

If you have a 7.3, you have a good engine and trans.

Smaller engines I'm not familiar with.
