I have a 92 F150 XLT 4X4 w/ 302 and E4OD tranny (100k miles). The truck is shift on the fly with automatic locking hubs and 2H-4H-N-4L shift pattern. What model is the transfer case?
Also, when the truck is in 2H everything seems fine, but when I shift to 4H, I hear a rubbing/grinding noise when decelerating. Does anyone know what this might be?
How can I figure out where the problem is? The noise sounds like it is below me or maybe a little in front of me when I'm driving it. It sounds like the drive shaft is rubbing on something or maybe a bad bearing. As I said, I only hear the noise when I'm decelerating and the truck is in 4WD.
you have a borg warner 13-56 transfer case. Your problem could be alot of things. does it sound like its coming from the transfer case. I had a sound like you described...but it was my front axle u-joints.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Jun-02 AT 08:43 PM (EST)]Crawl under the vehicle and look at the U-joints, the one closest to your transfer case is probably the bad one... I guarentee it...
Mine sounded just like you are describing... the needle bearings were DUST and one of the caps was shattered...
