I think i know what the prob is, but i want a second opinion. When i turn the key to start i get a faint thunk noise, i tried jumping the starter relay out with a wrench and nothing, no sparks, no thunk, nothing. The really bad part is that i am home alone, with nothing but a craftsman riding mower for transportation...
nawp, still have 5 shiners in the fridge. same place they have been since january. i wont touch them, yet. but it may be takeing me the 9 miles to oreillys if i cant find a ride. replaced that wire, the stud it mounts to on the solenoid seems broken. took the starter off and it spins and torks the starter over but it does not appear to be engagin the gear foreward. while it was mounted, i could hear a real faaaaaaast spinning sound but that was it.
something from oreillys. they are the only choise for nearly 40 miles from my house. we have a napa here, but they cant get parts for my truck , or they dont know how to look them up, one or the other.
y would ya think that joe? it looks good from the starter hole. if my wife ever comes home, gonna go have it tested. dont think i really wanna take the craftsman that far.
my sense of adventure is in the 100+ acres of thick woods that surround my house. Not in a truck that is ticking me off at the moment. That dang thing rattles apart EVERYTHING that is accociated with it. including my 200$ cobra that is mounted to the console. the meter has already quit, in 4 months, and the countless soda spews that i have gotten from drinks in the console!!!
i dont know how, but the stud that the relay connects to on the solenoid came loose. took it to oreillys, they tightened it up and tested, and it passed all the way around. got home and it is back to cranking on the second turn of the motor most times. i just wish i could dampen the vibration some on this truck. it vibrates so much that anything in the truck is throughly abused on a highway drive.
i know part of it is my front u-joint is going bad, my schocks AND springs are rusted, my carrier bearing has about 1/4 of the rubber surround left.
it has a little at idle... right now i have a metal shift **** that i just set on the shaft when i shift to keep from hurting my hand on the spline... at idle it doesnt make any noise, once you get going you have to hold it while floating out then remove it or you will go completly insane with the constant rattle from the vibration, and at 67+ you feel the front u-joint vibration. the only time i get the truck over 60ish is if i am on I-10 in beaumont.
AND when i had the new tires put on, there were 2 rims that they could not balance. they put a 4 or 5 weights on those 2 just to get it close but it was still a fair bit out of balance.
i know these are all contributing factors, but it takes time and money, more time than anything. but here lately i cant seem to stay well long enough to get anything done. worked half a day monday and off rest of week. today was the first day i was able to get out of the house
