I am so happy for you stu! I am considering it but my luck the doctor would be flap cutting and sneeze or the only earthquake to hit under the facility would happen.
My neighbor had it done last year and his doc did one eye for distance and one for reading. He still swears by it but it seems a little weird to me.
It intend to do it some day but I'm a big chicken. I've been wearing glasses since i was five years old. Freedom from corrective lenses would a great benefit.
hey stu, congrats on both your retirement and freedom from glasses. I myself have been wearing glasses since i was in 3rd grade about 18 yrs of my life and 1.5 yrs ago I started wearing contacts and wow I cant imagine what it would be like to wake up and see!! One day tho!
At first I did the same thing trying to push up imaginary glasses that are not really there, lol
Just a side note - stu if you still need your grass cut let me know and I would be honored to take care of that for yea.
again congrats on retirement and thanks for serving
My 78 yr old Dad got Lasik a couple years back, now he shoots handgun better than most folks and reads his newspaper without glasses.......Passed his drivers eye exam with flying colors. Now he really tailgates!.
Had mine done 1 yr 4 months ago. Its the best thing I've ever done for myself. When you stand up after the procedure you can see across the room. I haven't ever done this in my whole life I'm 42 yrs old. Always worn glasses and its been a handicap to me. I hear stories about people walking again after injury's and the things that they wanted to do again and go do. Well I'm one of those people who went and done something. After my surgery I started doing competitive archery freestyle. This is about as serious as it gets in archery in compound archery indoor shoots. I took 2nd in wyoming state archery shoot I shot a perfect score of 300pts each day and lost by 1x. I've always shot archery but glasses have always impaired me in one way or another. My eyes were -6.25. In simple terms they were coke bottles. If anyone have any questions on my doctor I will give you her name. Anyone out their 2nd guessing your missing out. It was a life changing event for me. I will be shooting archery here soon at national level this fall and got to make things happen because I'm getting older and things just don't work the way they used to. Congrats to stu and Siemper Fi. Former marine.
Well, I had my follow up appointment this morning and my eyes are 20/20! I see halos at night, but even that is getting lesser as the days go by.
I rode the bike yesterday for a few miles wearing the wraparound sunglasses they gave me at the doctors office. It was nice, though I didn't get to ride as much as I would have liked (work was waiting). BTW, I did manage to get the grass cut.
My neighbor had it done last year and his doc did one eye for distance and one for reading.
They call this mono vision and I had it done about 3 years ago. Best decision I have made in quite some time. No more glasses. I had near vision so I could read okay so the procedure amounted to getting one eye corrected for distance. Only require sunglasses now. Not everyone can adjust to having one eye do one thing and the other the opposite. The doc lets you wear a contact in one eye for about a week to see if your brain can adjust. If no problems, you are a good candidate. Did I mention how happy I am not to have to wear glasses. Should have done it sooner. Much sooner.
My wife had the monovision done a year and a half ago. She never fully adjusted to it, so when I went to get my eyes done, she got a consult from the same doc. (She had hers done at a different center) The doctor told her that he didn't know what they did, but it wasn't monovision. They ordered her records from the other office and he (the doctor) said if they screwed it up, he would see if he could get them to pay for hers. If not, he would do her one eye for the same deal he gave me (half price). Basically, they did not do what they said they were going to do- what we paid for- and now she has to go through another surgery to fix what they did incorrectly. I doubt there is a lawsuit here, but if they'll make good on it, we're ok with that.
I didn't think it would work for me but after a week of wearing the contact, I had adjusted. I'm glad it worked because I didn't have to trade one set of glasses for another. I hope they fix the issue with your wife's vision. Sounds like the other guy screwed up.
Great news! Ater 10 days, my vision is 20/15 (-1, whatever that means) in one eye and 20/15 (-2) in the other. No more of the steroids they gave me to put in my eyes, no more medicated drops of any kind, just the normal artificial tears (I'm using systaine). Riding the bike with the wraparounds is way better than wearing my glasses and the clip-ons I was using. The doctor also said no more restrictions- guess I can swim now or whatever I want to do.
BTW, I have had eye doctors telling me for a few years now that I was going to have to start holding books farther away from my eyes, but even with the lasik, I haven't had to start doing that. Holding a book very close to my eyes now is like it was when I wore glasses (hard to focus), but even 9 inches or so is comfortable enough for me (on the other hand, I can read a book three feet from my eyes, too!!)
